InfraRed (Wireless Link) problem
I have two ThinkPads (T40 & T42) - configured as identically as possible.
On the T42, the infrared works flawlessly.
On the T40, nothing even happens when I double click the Wireless Link icon in the Control Panel.
Anyone have any ideas?

huh, infrared can be used for connection with your PDA or cellular phone. I use it for both, because my phone has not bluetooth.eigh wrote:i cant help you, but ive seen this infared port on other laptops and never seen one in use. what can you use it for (since computer wireless communication is mainly an 802.11 variation)?

Re: InfraRed (Wireless Link) problem
Go to Start > Control Panel > System > Hardware > Device Manager and see if there are any red X's, or yellow !'s on Infrared Devices.Jim Pletcher wrote:I have two ThinkPads (T40 & T42) - configured as identically as possible.

You could uninstall the Infrared Device by right clicking on it in Device Manager. Then reboot. Windows should reinstall the device driver automatically. I had to do this to repair an IDE driver issue with my DVD reader not using DMA mode once.
If you still have a problem, disable the internal modem, and reboot.
If that doesn't work, make sure you are using the latest BIOS update, and the latest chipset drivers.
You can run PC doctor, to see if it comes up with anything. See link below for the device driver matrix for your T40.
