T43p: how to change the language of the IBM applications?

#1 Post by tokjdm » Mon Jul 25, 2005 7:03 pm

I bought my T43p in Japan with Japanese WinXP installed which is fine for some programs but not for others (at least for me). I'd like to change the language of the IBM applications (IBM Access Connections, etc.) to English but I don't know how to do that. I downloaded the English version from IBM and installed it over the existing one but the language was still Japanese. There does not seem to be a language controlling app which may mean that it depends on the language used for WinXP.... Any idea anyone ?

You can change the language with the older versions..but they seem to have put an end to that. The only way, I soon found out (after installing the updated versions), is to get english recovery CD's. That's what I had to do to convert my X40 from mandarin to english. Perhaps a person on this forum is willing to donate recovery cd's?

try "control panel"-->"regional and language options"-->"advanced"
I don't know if this would work. :?:

I would like to avoid going through a recovery procedure and I don't think I could obtain a recovery CD in English from Lenovo. Changing the language in the regional options of the control panel did not work. I could have installed the English WinXP but I want to keep the Japanese WinXP to work with Japanese software.

Then, I'm afraid it's not possible.

tokjdm,

call 0120-887-874

This is the tall-free phone# of IBM Japan's help center. If you call from mobile phone, then dial 0570-088-787.

In any case, you'll need a help from your Japanese-speaking friend ... I don't think operators at IBM Japan are good at speaking English.

Good luck

Thanks. I'll try tomorrow. Typhoon No. 7 is hitting Tokyo right now and public transportation may soon stop. I can handle Japanese without problems.

It depends if the japanese version works in the same way but if you look in the access connections folder then there should be country folders (US, GR, JP etc) - just copy the contents from the US folder to all other folders and it should then be in english (the only exception is the bottom buttons which change with the windows language and i don't think you can use mutlilingual packs on a japanese os)

I found the US folder but the files it contain do not have the same name as those in the main folders. Should they be individually renamed ?
