Buying Replacement Batteries
I purchased my T43 with the 9 cell battery. Now I'm thinking of getting a 6-cell as a spare. I see lots of 6 cell T-series batteries on eBay for $45-$60. But the Lenovo price is $159. Can this be? Am I missing something? Should I be suspicious?

Most of the batteries on Ebay are compatibles, not OEM.
There are a few of them that are new OEMs and they have been going for about $45-$55 shipped. Also, note these batteries are for the T40-T42 series which have a capacity of 4400mAH. The newer 6 cell batteries for the T43 have a capacity of 4800mAH to help offset the higher power usage.

That's what I've said, they are IBM compatibles, not OEM (OEM = original IBM). I've also said that there are original IBM batteries available for reasonable prices.boilermakerinatl wrote:mysbca, I disagree...there are lots of brand new IBM batteries on ebay(not OEM, original IBM).
If you've gotten an original IBM battery for $23 shipped, congratulations. That is more an exception than the norm.
Thanks to both of you for your input. It is very helpful, but I'm more than a little dense. This $159 battery on the Lenovo site says it is for T40/R50 series. Are you saying the T42 battery is not suitable for the T43 and there is a newer battery specific just to the T43 model? Is there a model number or a part number that I can use to search for that one.mysbca wrote:....these batteries are for the T40-T42 series which have a capacity of 4400mAH. TIA.
You can use the older 4.4 Amp/Hr T42 battery on the T43; it just won't last as long as the newer battery that comes with the T43. The battery you have linked to is the newer higher capacity battery (4.8Amp/Hr). It will last roughly 10% longer on a T42. I haven't seen the newer batteries available on Ebay yet.anthony wrote:[Are you saying the T42 battery is not suitable for the T43 and there is a newer battery specific just to the T43 model? .
Think of these batteries as gas tanks, the older T40-T42 batteries are 11 gallon tanks and the newer battery is a 12 gallon tank.
Thanks. The cheapest 92p1101 that I find on line is $93.38. Doesn't give specific amp/hr information, but they claim it is IBM and not a generic. And it carries the same model number shown on the Lenovo site. With shipping it comes to $102 for my ZIP.
But, I can get one of the 4400MaH (also IBM brand, model 08K8214) for $67.81 delivered. I think for the difference in price, I'll go with the 10 gallon tank. Afterall, it is a spare battery.
Thanks for sharing your insight. It was very helpful.
