S3 Sonic Vibes audio controller

#1 Post by chermesh » Wed Jul 27, 2005 2:07 am

Hi,
While trying to install one of Nero's application, I got a response that the S3 Sonic Vibes audio controller must be uninstalled prior to the Nero related installation.
I checked my system, and all I managed to locate is the following piece:

"The currently installed driver for the S3 Sonic Vibes audio controller is not compatible with Microsoft Windows XP and will be disabled during the upgrade.

For more information about this driver, visit the manufacturer's Web site at S3 Incorporated. Web addresses can change, so you might be unable to connect to this Web site.

For a list of devices supported by this version of Microsoft Windows, see the Microsoft Windows XP Compatibility List at http://www.microsoft.com".

It was part of a file named SONIC.HTM

Do you know what driver do the document refer to?
Should I get rid of it (since Nero claims it's installed)?
What driver should put instead?

Curiously, we have some software preloaded on the the T43 that is also called "Sonic" and it has something to do with CD Burning. It has nothing to do with audio drivers. Mine came with the "SoundMAX" stuff.

Looks like you're right. The RecordNow was installed on my T42 when I got it. I've uninstalled, but looks like a leftover in the form of an updating program stayed. I tried the update program, but all I got is a "The program failed to connect to the update server".
I checked the web for a Sonic update server and reached a Sonic site (http://www.sonicjapan.co.jp/oem/sony/rnupdate_en.html), which deals with updating RecordNow.
Now, that I've identified the culprit, I'm going to delete the update folder (in the program files/common files/sonic).
