newbie - T43 - 266875U - bluetooth question?

#1 Post by ssvapk » Wed Jul 27, 2005 10:21 pm

Finally Ordered my T43 - 266875U on July 24th :D . Online shows 2-4 weeks to ship  .

I have never used any bluetooth accessories. my T43 configuration shows it has bluetooth. I am not sure whether i can use it directly with bluetooth mouse.

I read in many forums talking about daughtercard.

Can anyone explain what is requied to use the bluetooth mouse directly without any usb adapter :?: .
Does T43 - 266875U is ready for bluetooth mouse :?:

I have a T42 with bluetooth. I did not need any additional hardware. I use a Kensington Pilot Mouse. Haven't had any problems. The mouse is very nicely consturcted. Has on/off switch which is a nice touch.

The 75U has integrated Bluetooth. Therefore, you don't need any other cards. If your model did not have Bluetooth integrated in some instances, you could buy the daughter card and install it yourself. But with the 75U, you'll be good to go. The only thing you might need to do will be to insure your Bluetooth radio is turned on, mine was turned off by default. To do this, just press fn+f5 to bring up access connections.

Hope this helps,

like fredgarvin said kensington pilot mouse. ive handled the corded version of it and i love it. go to a local best buy and feel one (if you can) they are great. i would imagin the bluetooth one would be a bit heavier because of the batteries.

i would also assume the mini kensington pilot mouse would be great (since its a smaller bluetooth version of the regular pilot mouse).

i have decided to go the cheap route, and just use a tiny [censored] corded optical mouse (i already have it, so its free!).

Another perspective. Nothing against what everyone else is saying, but IMHO, use the unit for a month or so before deciding on a mouse. I know there's a certain comfort-zone factor in involving the entire arm in the computing process. But, give yourself a little time to navigate the learning curve with the trackpoint and touchpad. You'll be surpassed how quickly you become proficient. I used the mouse for years with my Toshiba and Dell notebooks. But I couldn't decide on a new mouse when I got my ThinkPad early this month. And after a few weeks of being mouse-free, frankly, I don't miss it. IBM's touchpad is much more responsive and the trackpoint is larger and more comfortable than Dell's or Toshiba's. You'll get really good at using them, very fast.

A mouse is just another thing to carry. And you still need a surface to use it on. The joy of the ThinkPad is that it is small lightweight and self contained. You grab it and go. Why load it down with add-ons? It's a new toy. Learn to use it in new ways. As I said, just another perspective.... :D

You might consider the "Stowaway Travel Mouse" Bluetooth-enabled mouse from Think Outside. It's small, lightweight and reasonably priced if you get it from a third-party seller like Amazon. I bought one a couple of months ago and it's been reliable and trouble-free. It even got an "Editor's Choice" award from PC Magazine, for whatever that's worth.
