Seagate 100GB
Seagate 100GB
Hi all,
for those of you who have the Seagate Momentus 5400rpm (100 GB). Have you experimented a greater heating with this HD?.
I had before the 40GB Fujitsu in my T42, and the Momentus produces noticeably more heating than the Fujitsu. Indeed the Fujitsu didn't produce any heat.
Regards.

i have seagate momentus 100gb 5400rpm hdd, and it's a wonderful hard drive. i could hardly tell much difference between 7200rpm and 5400rpm, and with extra of 40 gb it's worth it. 5400 rpm in 100 gb is equivelant in price as 7200 rpm in 60 gb. and to me i'd rather have extra gb than a slight increase in performance dued to increaseing in rpm. and also faster rpm will result in more noise, and more energy consumption. more energy consumption means more heat output.
Not sure that's the case, is it? Sure, the 7200 spins faster but it also has a faster seek time, which means less time spinning. I've read that the power consumption difference is minimal to non-existant.redskin wrote:faster rpm will result in more noise, and more energy consumption. more energy consumption means more heat output.

I have seagate momentus 100gb 5400 and hitachi 7k60. I can tell that seagate 5400rpm is slower than 7k60 in my experience and produces more heat than 7k60. In my opinion, 7k60 has the best performance and I am quite satisfied with its heat control. I am looking forward the 7k100. Since I am dual-boot with windows and linux, I am now using the seagate 100gb 5400rpm
My strange logic might be a bit off, but a Tom's Harware test of 7200 vs. 5400 notebook HDDs showed that power consumption was no greater for the 7200 than the 5400.dummkopf wrote:A very mysterious statement. About 2 weeks ago, the Seagate Momentus 5K100 finally arrived in Hong Kong. this was over 10 mths after it had been announced.spoon wrote:no one has a Seagate Momentus?
I actually phoned the distributor and they say they just arrived in very limited qty as stock is very limited...
Now for the Seagate Momentus 7K100...
(To be fair, you still cannot buy in Hong Kong the Hitachi Travelstar 5K100, which was announced over 9 mths ago...
