Linksys WRT54G + T43 2687DDU + Intel Pro 2915ABG=Horrid Mix

#1 Post by Navck » Wed Jul 27, 2005 11:58 pm

Well, lets say that I went through tech support enough times to drive them crazy... And the inablity to use encryption is bad as well. And having a "24 Mbps adapter speed" + having 149kbps/54kbps (Translates to 18.6KB/s and 6.8KB/s) download/upload speed is pretty bad as well.
Note - Being on a 5MPB/s cable line isn't very helpful if my Wireless G is not even able to go wireless B speeds.

I've also tried the latest drivers and HyperWRT Firmware for my router, is there anyway my TP can be able to have wireless capablitys? Also, IBM is "very" relunctant for me sending my machine in.

dang man, this thread makes me sad from the start. i ordered a 2668-74u (autheros a/b/g wireless card) and plan to use the wrt54g router. i tried thw wrt54gc but fell in love with the hacked firmware options, so i returned the comapct version.

i can understand why ibm is reluctant to send it in. it sounds like you just dont have something set up right, but i cant tell what it is!!

have you tried different firmware or the stock firmware?

how far from the router are you?
- i just learned from another router problem thread that being too close can be just as bad as being too far away (try mid range, like 10 feet at least).

im gonna go hunting on this, i really would like to see why youre having trouble (it could affect me too!).

Go to intel's site and download the latest drivers (version 9.0.2 not 9.0.1) They work wonders on the intel/broadcom issue that it experiences with intel cards and the wrt54g.

2687DDU - Please do not even try old DLinks with it, apparently I had entire 2 weeks to set it up... Then the router dies (ARGH!). Its 802.11B went faster than my "802.11G"
IBM Doesn't want me to use encryption either. They had me remake a profile after installing drivers (Which still... Doesn't connect to my router at any range)
I also cannot remove the screws to inspect my wireless card, one of them is "superglued" into place, or something, its unmovable to me (And it stripped a screwdriver)

I can only think about getting a PCMCIA card (Why did I go for the 2687DDU and not upgrade my wireless card to a IBM one!)

Have you tried the 9.0.2 drivers from intel's site?

9.0.1.21 is the latest I have, now where exactly can I find those Intel drivers? (Their site is a huge mess)

Found it. But new problem
I'm going from "Great signal quality" to "Disconnected" every 30 seconds, then it proceeds to reconnect... But I stay at 54mpb/s (But its REALLY slow for 54mpb/s, infact I feel like I'm on 56k)
Apparently, using the Intel client, I can connect, then lose connection every 30 seconds.
IBM Client won't work
Windows client works, then disconnects after connecting

Signal = Excellent, out of network range, poor, poor, DISCONNECTED.
5 seconds this time, with laptop 1 foot away from wireless router

Edit - Note, thats quality, not strength
Edit edit - I have more luck connecting to an wireless network with 1/5 bar for strength, it doesn't disconnect me but I cannot get a IP adress...
Edit edit edit - Apparently trying to load my wireless with anything like a speed test drops my speed to 24 MBP/s... Then drops me before I get to even upload testing. Not happy at all
Edit edit edit edit - 802.11A support automatically goes away after I set it. Infact, everything I change in settings goes to default for no reason at all
Edit 5 - I just noticed something, I finnally got it to go to Wireless A/B/G, but it autoamtically drops me within 1 second of connecting

PS - I get results of slow wireless again

Ok, wireless finally doesn't work at all. I think I can say my T43 is 100% unable to use wireless networks and IBM doesn't want me to send it in for repairs. I'm hoping this isn't typical of every 2687DDU.

I'm hoping this is not typical for all 2687DDU owners, because I can declare my TP "100% unable to use wireless internet through its own intergrated wireless card" right now.

Edit:Got to a rep who belives its hardware issue.
Edit edit:Ok... Sending my TP with the harddrive (It won't come off) in! I hopefully get wireless issues fixed!

I have a 2687DVU, don't know how different is mine compared to yours w.r.t wireless hardware. I have the same setup as yours and I consistently get close to 400 to 420 kilobytes/sec download speeds (thats around 3.2 MB/s). It has to be with your hardware, can you check with any other wireless adapter before you ship this out to Lenovo. Hopefully you can narrow it down!
2687-DVU - 15" FlexView, 64MB x300, 1 GB, 80 GB 5K4 HDD, DVD±RW, Wireless A/B/G/BT, FP Reader.
