Question about my New T43

#1 Post by xhide98 » Fri Jul 29, 2005 3:14 am

Hi guys I just got a new T43, the 2687D4U to be precise. I'm an apple person but I had to get a PC for grad school and thinkpads seemed to be the closest computers I could find as far as quality and support went. So far I haven't been disappointed. I do have one question about it though - when the laptop is closed and I look at the back part (above the hole where the power cord plugs in and the serial port) I see a strange strip of black film or tape that runs from the computer to the monitor. I can also see it near the bottom left hand corner of the screen when the laptop is open. I'm somewhat curious as to what that tape is there for, and why it is exposed to the outside. If anyone could clear that up it would be much appreciated. Thanks

This strip feeds the monitor with the information of what it should display. Like DVI, but for laptops (LVDS).

should it be exposed the way it is? I hope it isn't easily damaged!

This is normal, I highly doubt it will get damaged unless sharp things are always digging into your notebook, which is not usual. Spilling fluids will cause issues any way you look at it, and it won't get any more or less wear from repeated movement whether it is visible or not either. I can't think of too many other obvious possibilities for damage.

It's the VGA cable connecting VGA and your LCD.
Let's go'n'restart :-)
