How is 266876U?

#1 Post by ddutta » Sat Jul 30, 2005 4:15 pm

Hi

Does anyone have experience with 266876U? Its a T43 with 2GHz/80GB/512MB/SXGA+

I bought a 2379R1U less than a month back for $1150 and this one would be $1530 at the EPP store after tax. I just do programming, reading online docs and webbrowsing. Once in a while I run major math stuff.

I have until Mon to decide (my 30 day return period gets over). Any suggestions would be great!

Cheers

I forgot to add:

The 2379R1U is a T42 1.6/256MB/40GB/XGA and has the fingerprint reader which I dont use! Also, how is the battery life of a T42 with a 6cell. Do I need to get a 9cell due to the higher power consumption of the Sonoma platform?

The T43 uses 10% more power, but it comes with a slightly higher capacity battery (4800 mAH vs 4400 mAH for the 6 cell, 7200 mAH vs 6600 mAH for the 9 cell), so the actual battery life is about the same.

The SXGA+ screen will allow you to see more on screen at one time which is nice for programming, but text and graphics will be smaller. You can adjust it with the Windows DPI setting.

The fan on the T43 appears to run more often and louder, but I don't have a T42 to compare with. Do a search on the numerous posts about T43 fan noise. Personally, I don't think it's that bad, it is loud at startup and quiets down. After about 10 minutes, it kicks in again with a slight whirring sound, but not as loud as when it starts up.

The IBM wifi card is excellent. The extra processing power and disc space are nice as well. If fan noise doesn't bother you, then I would highly recommend it.
