My 2.0 Ghz / 755 CPU based system just shipped!

#1 Post by LinuxGuy75 » Fri Jun 25, 2004 12:38 pm

Finally.

I ordered on 5/22/04 a 2373-KUU, it has been a painful wait.

I have an extra 512MB Crucial memory stick waiting for it when it arrives.

Can't wait to install Linux on it and blow away Windows.

Does anyone know if it possible to get a refund for Windows? Sucks paying the Microsoft Tax, and having my purchase count towards the marketshare numbers for Windows.

you can get ur windows refund actually...i read this article once that this guy wanted to install linux instead so right when he got his computer he formatted the computer called the company (ibm) and asked for a refund...u have to say like u don't agree with the windows agreement and i think somewhere in that agreement it says that u can get a refund...this guy took months to get his refund cuz the company kept arguing whether microsoft should refund him or the company itself...but eventually he got his refund

if u look more into it u can get your refund for windows, but it is gonna take a lot of work ^^

Finally :) ! I ordered the KXU on 6/1. It feels like forever; however, the original ship date was 7/8. Anyone have an estimate on how long it takes from the stage to receive it?

Thanks!

You'll probably be getting it soon. I just got the tracking number for my KTU. :D It was ordered on the 6/16/04 and estimated ship date was 7/16/04. Customization/Packing was 1 day. We'll see how long it takes from there..

Anybody cares to post their experience with a KTU. I am eagerly awaiting mine which Bill is shipping today (should be with me in London on Monday - fingers crossed!)

1) Does the machine really come with 1GB memory? (that's what I am expecting but there's still a slight question mark on this)

2) How is the build quality? Any fan problems?

Cheers,
Christian

1) 1GB for sure. It was a typo. The first rep I talked to assured me it was 512MB, the second one I ordered it from assured me it was 1GB. It showed up with 1GB.

2) I'm not sure as to what you're asking. The fan is smooth and doesn't turn on and off. It stays on until the system cools off. It came with the Sanyo 9 cell and it isn't loose. I purchased the 6cell Sanyo off ebay and it DOES move around. Mine's has the matte bezel and I haven't opened it up yet to see which keyboard it has. (Thailand vs China) I don't notice the keyboard flex issue. The notebook feels sturdy to me but I haven't used IBMs extensively previously so I can't compare it to older models. I don't notice the gap everyone talks about, maybe I'm just missing it? If you have any specific questions or pictures you'd like, I'd be glad to answer them for you.

Just got my 2373-KTU!

#12 Post by csarrasin » Tue Jul 06, 2004 1:49 pm

I just got my 2373-KTU from Bill and - what can I say, this machine is a real real beauty (I'm typing this on its keyboard now). That sould make me one of the first 2Ghz Thinkpad users in Europe :-))

I'm ugrading from a T30 and boy, I wouldn't have thought that 2 years of technical progress would make such a difference (I've been upgrading my TPs every two years from a 770X - A20p - T30 and this is a familiar feeling though ;-)

The build quality is perfect, there isn't a single dead pixel and the machine is incredibly quiet (the fan's running now but it's barely noticeable - there certainly isn't anything about throbs, cycles or whatever).

Just wanted to second what lots of other people here have been saying about Bill's service: top notch! (he's even swapped the standard 9-cell battery for a 6-cell as I didn't feel like having this piece sticking out at the bottom - all at no extra charge).
