New T43p Models Not in tabook

#1 Post by ads » Tue Aug 02, 2005 5:10 pm

What is up with all these new T43p models listed on the Lenovo website that aren't listed in the tabook? Many of them don't even look like T43p's - they don't have the FireGL V3200 graphics or the 72k hard drive or 1Gb of RAM.

Have you downloaded the latest version of the tabook, version 294?
There are 15 T43p listed that have those specs.

I am looking at the August 2005 tabook (version 295) and all the listed T43p's have FireGL V3200 graphics and all but one (an education model) has 1GB RAM. The new T43p models listed on the Lenovo website are not in this edition of the tabook.

Sorry, I think I misread your original post. I haven't looked at the Lenovo site, so I'm not familiar with the new models.

Apparently the p doesn't mean anything anymore. It's no longer p as in mobile workstations. Lenovo is bringing down the perceived value of its p's line.

The mobile workstations used to be had with the:

ATI MOBILITY FireGL V3200 128 MB PCI Express graphics (T43p)
ATI MOBILITY FireGL T2 128 MB 4X AGP graphics (T41p/T42p)

Now, the p can be slapped on anything.
T43 2668-75U: 2GHz, 14.1" SXGA, 2GB RAM, 64MB ATI x300, DVD Recordable, IBM 11a/b/g Wi-Fi Wireless II, Bluetooth, Fingerprint Reader.

Great. I've noticed that there are many who buy the 'p' models for the most ludicrous reasons.

Okay, finally took a look at the new models. Looks like they put the p designation on the new 2686MxU models because they are "Express" models.

Looks like a lame marketing trick.

I agree... I've seen non-p T43s that I think have better specs than some of the new p models. Heck, there's even a T43p with the intel graphics card. Now that's lame!

Well, if this is the kind of marketing strategies Lenovo is planning for the future, I wish them luck....

Which model would that be? Every T43P has the ATI 128MB video chip. I just checked every model in the PSRG to verify.

Wow, I didn't even see that one. Now I really hope it is just a mistake on their part, or they should just take the "p" out, or maybe put "p" on all of them!

It has to be a type-o on the site. I will point it out tomorrow, as I work there.

You work there? Then maybe you would know...is it true that "TABOOK" stands for "TABOO Knowledge"?
