new T series models

#1 Post by HamTard » Wed Aug 03, 2005 1:38 pm

Anyone know if there are any upcoming T series models that will have a better video card, and when it will be out? Anyone know if there is a scheduled price drop for T series some time this year?

Thinkpads will never be a "gaming machine" Next year or at the end of this year you can expect dual-core Pentium Ms, and MAYBE an X600. Even then, its no Dell XPS2. The T series already have heat issues. A powerfull GPU would increase heat and lower battery life. Lenovo/IBM produced the BEST business notebooks, and aren't going to get pulled in to the saturated and competitive market of laptop gaming. Even an expensive T43p would be average for those looking for a desktop gaming experience. But hey, it you just to pass the time playing some cool old games like SimCity4000, BF 1942, or others, the X300 does nicely.

Since I haven't ordered a T-series yet I might as well listen (or read) in on this. If there's a new model with a good graphics card coming out within a month, thats great news for (though it will be expensive ~ 4000 i'm thinking). Ham I was in the predicament that I think you're in...IBMs are really great but they seem weak on the graphics front (not great graphics cards for comps). In my case, I'll bit the bullet and I do have a desktop...sucks that I won't be able to switch to a good game whenever I want, but oh well...I'll take the quality.

The graphics card issue was the only reason why I was considering Dell along with IBM in getting a comp. If there's no new model, you'll have to bite the bullet on this issue too. Don't get me wrong though, I think many who have these comps have said that most games run ok (not great, but ok) but don't expect to max out on resolution and fps, etc.

Like cc said, these will never been true gaming machines..they are definitely designed for business. I;m positive you know this but you're just checking to see if there's anything slightly better.

1.) probably they have Christmas sale. I saw a t42p dropped from $3400 to $2299 last year.
2.) I hope T44-series would come with V5000 but probably not.
3.) You can try to replace the X300 to X700 or X800 if you have skill. 2% chance
4.) v3200 = working station verison of X600. I think it's enough huh?
