When will there be a T series upgrade?
When will there be a T series upgrade?
Any ideas about when the next generation of T series come out? When will existing lines get a price cut?

If I were you I wouldn't want to wait too long. Lenovo actually increases the price on its new August models. A lot of models with the same specs have the steep price increase. You will pay a lot more just for a different model numberHamTard wrote:Any ideas about when the next generation of T series come out? When will existing lines get a price cut?

My crystal ball says it will happen 31 days after you actually make your purchase.HamTard wrote:Any ideas about when the next generation of T series come out? When will existing lines get a price cut?

Dont worry. Watch daily in this forum OR send an email to Bill, if there is an offer.
When T42 models were released, I bought my T41p very cheap, but was available only for a short period until the stocks run out.
Usually, price cuts are due to new processor relases by Intel (and correspoding thinkpads models). I waited for the Dothan release to grab my banias machine.

The T series was supposed to get a minor refresh during April/May but due to Lenovo taking over it appears the internal road map I had went out the window.HamTard wrote:Any ideas about when the next generation of T series come out? When will existing lines get a price cut?

Who knows??! The rumor mill just keeps turning.
It would make sense that a widescreen series would be targeted at media applications (gaming, video, etc.) I can't see business users who are the main market for the T-series wanted to lug around a widescreen laptop.
Question is, will the R and G series survive?

The G series is severely underpowered as is. For a desktop replacement, it sure has a rather poor selection of video cards. If they introduce a Z series widescreen Pentium M with a pretty nice (X600 or better) video card, I'd much rather get that than the Inspiron 9300 because the I9300 build quality is much lower than a ThinkPad.
A new model would be attached to a new processor, right?
I wonder what's going to be this new processor. My impression is that the current family of Centrino processors will soon be over. The latest addition resulted in small performance gains in relation to the cost paid in terms of heat and battery life.
Would the new family of trully mobile processors be a dual-core family?
Anyway, I'm glad I have a T42 and I think it will be anough for at least two more years

Wow two more years...if our laptops last an avg. three years, thats 2 grand (and usually more!) almost every three years..phew..thats a lot of money. Everyone here rich or is quality just that important! Excuse my ignorance though..I have never owned an IBM laptop (or computer for that matter) but I ordered one today!

No, everyone here is not rich - at least I know I'm not. My first TP was a used 600E (manufactured in 1999), which I used up till January of this year. My 20-year-old daughter uses it now, and is very happy with it. Other than the rather lengthy boot times, which I avoided by using Standby, this laptop was working fine for me.STS06 wrote:Wow two more years...if our laptops last an avg. three years, thats 2 grand (and usually more!) almost every three years..phew..thats a lot of money. My daughter was starting college and needed her own computer, and rather than buy her a new one, I bought myself a new one (T42)
I don't plan on upgrading my T42 for several years. That is unless my next daughter (the 17-year-old) needs one, then I will probably go through this cycle again.

The G series is going end-of life at the end of this year. Intel will no longer be producing Pentium 4 M's. The Z series is due Sept. 20th. They will be widescreen, have speakers on each side of the keyboard, and include a windows key to the keyboard layout.pipspeak wrote:Who knows??! The rumor mill just keeps turning.

Sept 20th! Whoa, things will get interesting then. Sounds like it will be more consumer-oriented than ever before. Being so soon, of course, there would be no new Yonah processor in time, so I'd imagine the Sonoma would continue on.

A big advantage of the T-series is its resale value IMO. I generally buy the latest model with a three year warrenty and then sell it two years down the line for at least 50% of what I originally paid. They're well built and with 1 year of the warranty left they're an easy sell.STS06 wrote:Wow two more years...if our laptops last an avg. three years, thats 2 grand (and usually more!) almost every three years..phew..thats a lot of money. That essentially halves the cost of a new one for me.
Where did you get that information? Do you know if it will have a better graphics card than the X300? If they're available Sept.20th, they must be in production now, or starting soon, so someone must know something!Morelia wrote:The G series is going end-of life at the end of this year. You should check out the news section of this forum. There are pictures. And yes, apparently there will be a X700 GPU. Definitely sounds like a consumer notebook.
