s-video cable for video output, and y-cable for stereo audio output. i don't think it will output HD singal. only if your tv has dvi input and you must have a dock for output dvi.

some pix to help you out. best buy or radio shack has them.

Your Thinkpad should have an S-Video out jack. Get yourself an s-video cable, plug one end into laptop, the other end into TV's s-video input jack. I don't own an HDTV, but I know that how it works for regular TVs. Worst case you might just need to get an adapter (e.g. s-video to RCA)

msafi,
If you are using the same version of InterVideo WinDVD that came on my T42, to try and watch DVD's from your laptop on the TV, it won't work. It appears to be a crippled version. Probably the full version would allow this. I use CyberLink PowerDVD from my laptop to the TV - no problem. I bought an S-Video to RCA adapter at Radio Shack to do this, as my TV has no S-Video input. I also had to get a headphone plug to RCA (2) adapter.

well, actually, i don't wanna watch DVDs from my laptop. i wanna play the DivX, XVid, and other video files that i have on my hard-disk.

my tv does have s-video.

so is it difficult to play those kinds of files on the tv?

Get yourself a good player (if you don't have it yet). Zoom Player will do. With my T23 I was able to send hi-res picture to TV. So, you may get better resolutions than regular TV. Just experiment a little. Things may be different with T40 though. It's not difficult, just get the two cables mentioned above.

Theres nothing to it.
get the A/V cables and provided you have the correct drivers/codecs etc your good to go.

the version problem is a possibility.. I use my winDVD with my svideo output though, and if i remember correctly, it works. However, if winDVD was running while i switched the video output to the svideo port, winDVD would only play on screen and not on SVideo..

if the port was switched to svideo when windvd started, the video would only play on the svideo port and not on the laptop's screen.

it's worth trying out. hope that helps.
