Fire GL or X300 for Photoshop work?

#1 Post by pipspeak » Thu Aug 04, 2005 11:59 am

As a follow up to an earlier thread of mine I have a more specific question about T-series graphics cards.

Which combination would be the best for Photoshop and llustrator type graphics work (NOT gaming), all other things (processor speed, 1GB RAM, etc) being equal?

The T42p's 128MB Fire GL T2 graphics card, but slower speed bus and memory?

The T43's X300 64MB card but with faster system bus and memory speed?

I suspect the Fire GL, but just want to make sure and also find out how great the difference in performance is likely to be to help me decide if it's worth paying the extra money for a T42p or not.

Thanks.

Neither the X300 nor the FireGL will make much difference with Photoshop. GPUs only help with 3D acceleration, and Photoshop is primarily for work with 2D graphics/images.

CPU speed matters more for Photoshop. The T43 should be slightly, but not much, faster than the T42.

The price difference, IMHO, is too great for a 'p' model. For photoshop, a T42 or T43 would be fine.

I agree, photoshop is CPU and RAM intensive; therefore the T43 will inherently be better because of its faster CPU option and the faster bus speed. Either model will work beautifully with the higher end CPUs and 2GB of ram. That allows you to save money on non p models.

Good luck.
