dock II with PCI video card - docking and undocking question

#1 Post by jdog » Fri Aug 05, 2005 12:32 pm

Hi. Can anyone answer this question: if you are using the dock II with a PCI video card (thinking of getting ATI 9250), does this effect docking and undocking? Does the t43 handle the docking undocking procedure gracefully with the PCI card running, or is there something special you need to do through windows to dock or undock.

THanks, I really appreciate the help, as I'm deciding wheather or not to invest in the dock II. THanks!

Very few people have a dock II, most people get the minidock or the port replicator. And even fewer people have a graphics card in their dockII. How a graphics card will work in the dock II is a good question for IBM tech support. I'm curious myself to know if it's feasible or not to run a high powered desktop graphics card in the dock II.

Well, I've got a Dock II with a combo firewire/usb 2.0 card in it right now, and the "Undock Computer" button in windows handles undocking just fine.

I got the Dock II because another memeber running a T43 & Dock II is driving two of those Dell 24" 2405FPW screens off the Dock II using a PCI video card. I assume he's using one of the DVI outs on the video card and one on the Dock II.

I plan on putting together a similiar setup soon when I save up some more $$$.

I would suggest you search these forums for "bus mastering" and "Dock II". Otherwise, I find the T-series/Dock II a well-integrated piece of kit. Regards.

I have a video card (Radeon 9250) in the Dock II. I just went to Start->Undock Computer and got this error msg
Problem Undocking From Docking Station

You cannot eject your computer because one of the devices in the docking station, 'RADEON 9250 - Secondary', cannot be stopped right now. Try closing all applications and ejecting the computer again later.
If I disable the monitor in Display Properties, I get the same thing.

RonS,

I sometimes get a similar error on T-series machines before I upgrade the Embedded Controller Program/BIOS and run IBM's Software Installer.
