change HDD keep xp / Installation Disks?

#1 Post by C.Schlehaus » Fri Aug 05, 2005 1:01 pm

Hi,
I want to upgrade the HDD of my Thinkpad while keeping the WIN XP delivered with the Thinkpad.
So how to transfer the system or getting the installation CD?

Thanks Carlhermann

If the system's working fine, clone the whole drive over onto the new one using Acronis TrueImage. You'll need a USB drive enclosure to hold the new drive while you're doing this--tigerdirect.com sells them for about $15, and then you can put your old drive in it afterwards, to use as a portable USB drive.

Do you want to copy the complete drive including IBM's PreDesktop Area? If so, check out this link

Great post puttagee! Writing down the step-by-step procedure will save many here, hours of trial and error. Including the ftp link was icing on the cake. Thanks again. 8) :D
