clean format T43?
ps24eva, I just got my T43 as well... and I am in the middle of a clean install to get rid of the pre-installed crap.
The first sticky in the "Windows OS" forum entitled "How to Fresh Install Win XP (Step-by-Step Guide)" (found here) is a good information source as to how to do a fresh install of XPP.
Good luck!

People like to differ with this, but it is a waste of time to clean format a modern IBM T Laptop. The biggest IBM apps (Access Connections, HD Protection, ThinkPad Config, etc) are amongst the most useful. The rest are not bad at all, and don't amount to a hill of beans on a big hard drive. Also, *all* the apps on my T41 (IBM, Microsoft, Adobe, Symantec, VMware and on and on and on) all loaded together consume in aggregate less than 1 percent CPU at idle. What is to get rid of? ... From reading all the posts on this forum, I think we may be in the minority, but I am with you on this. I must admit that everytime I read "all that IBM crap" it raises my hackles.jdhurst wrote:People like to differ with this, but it is a waste of time to clean format a modern IBM T Laptop. That said, I think it is great that everyone here can set up their laptop just how they like. Nobody is forced into any one particular setup. Some here are happy with Windows, but others insist on Linux or another OS. I've come to the conclusion that there is some of the 'Tim the Toolman Taylor' mentality going on here. Men (and some women) just like to fiddle with things. Always trying to make a better mousetrap. In a previous generation, it was the automobile that received all this tinkering.

Amen! Thank goodness for them tinkerers too. But I know my limitations. I'm from the "whatever can go wrong" school. So it's always best for me to stay one to two versions behind the crowd.
But I do enjoy reading about all the wonderful things folk are doing. And next year when I try it, I will know all the bugs have been worked out by youse guys...

I originally did a reinstall so I could get rid of the hidden partition without having to have a seperate 5Gb partition or to spend money on partition magic. I ended up installing most of the IBM tools anyhow (got rid of norton AV and the screen magnifier).
