T42p w/ BT: Modem only makes clicking sounds when connecting

#1 Post by bapatterson » Sat Aug 06, 2005 1:34 am

I have a T42p (2373KTU) with the factory installed internal 56K Modem/Bluetooth card. I am using Win XP Pro with the latest modem drivers (v. 7.12.15.50).

The modem fully passes the Win XP diagnostic and seems to functionally work ok. The default location is set to the U.S. and is set for tone dialing.

The modem, however, does not make any of the normal sounds when connecting. I do not hear the dial tone nor do I hear any of the normal screeches that I should hear while the modem is connecting. All I hear is a series of repetitive clicking sounds.

How do I fix it?

disable/enable modem speaker in modem configuration may do a little help.

also, with the media player running, you can hear the modem sound.

BTW, does your fingerprint reader function well while the phone line is plugged in the modem?

I tried disabling and re-enabling the speaker volume. No help.

I opened Windows Media Player 10 and tried to dial. Same clicking sounds.

I did reload the IBM drivers, but that made no difference either. This is really odd.

My T42p doesn't have a fingerprint reader. Isn't that a T43 option?
