120GB in T43p?

#1 Post by C.Schlehaus » Sun Aug 07, 2005 6:58 am

Hi,
just thinking about installation of a 120GB HDD in my Thinkpad T43p. Is there any problem known (e.g. not any HDD working in the T43p) or will e.g. the Toshiba MK-1233GAS, 120 GB, 12/8192/4200, U-100 IDE work fine?
Would you recommend other HDD (Hitachi has no 120GB, I thin Seagate and Fujitsu would be only alternatives) for use in the T43p?

Thanks a lot, Carlhermann

you can use 120 gb in your t43p or even 100 gb , as long as your bios is version 1.03 or below. most likely is that if you just bought t43p rescently then you need to downgrade your bios to version 1.03 or version 1.02, anything above that will give you an error message 2120. not that is is anything wrong with your computer, it's just nagging to have to press on ESC button every time you book up your computer. if you can live with it then keep the current bios version that you have or upgrade to the latest version to fix any bugs that previous versions didn't have . for me version 1.02 is what i downgraded to suites me just fine , in order to avoid the nagging error 2120 screen.

i just put the toshiba 1032GAX (100gb, 5400rpm, 16mb). I've the 2010 error message. I have currently the bios version 1.22 (the error message still come each time i start my t43p. Just hoping that the future bios version would allow to disable the error message).

Mine T43p is bios 1.08 ... where did you get 1.22 bios, and what sort of enhancement in this bios version? Please advice, thanks

I got it on the ibm website (the software installer was also asking me to update the bios btw).
It seems that no big changes have been made.

Version 1YET56WW (1.21)
Note: This BIOS version will only work with Embedded Controller Program Version 1.03 (or higher).

* (New) Support for August 2005 models of ThinkPad T43/T43p.
* (New) Adjustment of video memory settings on ATI-M22 models.
Note Due to this, the previous BIOS release can't support the new video memory settings.
* (New) Enhancement of security function on power-on: When hard drive password is set, regardless of other passwords settings, Wake On Lan from power off state does not work.
* (Fix) Monochrome VGA video mode does not work on DOS environment.
* (Fix) BIOS Fingerprint input screen timeout is set to 13 seconds occasionally. Its correct value is 40 seconds.

Version 1YET57WW (1.22)
Note: This BIOS version will only work with Embedded Controller Program Version 1.03 (or higher).

* (New) Adjustment of new video memory settings on ATI-M24 models.
Note: Due to this, the previous BIOS release can't support the new video memory settings.

M22 = ?
* (New) Adjustment of video memory settings on ATI-M22 models.
Does that mean I can expand my X300 memory into my normal ram?

AFAIK, no you can't in a Thinkpad. While the video card suports this, it's not implemented by IBM/Lenovo on the MB.

I could be wrong and would love to find out if I am.

Hi,
if I did not miss any information, there are currently 3 HDD with 2.5" / 120GB available with two operating with 4200rpm and the seagate being the only one with 5400rpm. I did not found any HDD that size with more than 5400rpm...
Additionally I found a HDD with 160GB in 2.5" with S-ATA, while this is on backorder...

Sincerely, CS
