Another Dell --> IBM T42 convert :)

#1 Post by plucky duck » Sat Jun 26, 2004 11:20 am

Placed my order of the T42 JXU model on Friday. Was told there'd be a 2week.

Specs:
P-M Dothan 1.7Ghz
512mb PC2700 ddr ram
40GB HD
15" 1400*1050 Flexview

Still have a functional 30GB mobile hd from the Inspiron 8100, so also got me a slim HD bay from IBM for that.

Too bad IBM doesn't have an option for DVD-R for T42 but the most expensive models.

Bought the bumps and bruise warranty as well, 3yrs for $135. Figured might as well for peace of mind as the price is pretty reasonable.

Initally bought the Toshiba Satellite Pro M10, but the UXGA+ screen is killing my eyes. I thought I'd like it, but I didn't. Eyes get tiring way too quick after reading the forums for an hour. Plus the hd is only 4200rpm.

Can't wait!! :)

BTW, is it me or are laptops getting VERY chunky these days? The wide screen models, especially the 17" ones are humongous!

One feature I'd wish IBM would incorporate is internal TV Tuner. But seeing how it's business oriented, I guess I can only keep on dreaming.
I am Canadian

Wouldn't surprise me. I'm sorry, but I have a 4 year old (yes I'm just NOW thinking of replacing it) that's 7.5 lbs (I think I have that right) and another laptop even older which is 9 lbs (I nicknamed it "the brick"), and I can't imagine hauling those weights around again (especially with all the "stuff" that goes into the case with it... cellphone, PDA, AC, etc).

I'm glad to be going from my two year old HP 15", 8lbs. + to T42 14", 4.5 lbs. With the other assorted items the travel weight can really add up... :(
