whats ibm's dead pixel policy?

#1 Post by eigh » Mon Aug 08, 2005 11:49 pm

sob....

just got thinkpad a week ago, just noticed today a dead pixel almost in the center of the display. its stuck white. its only one pixel, but i dont like it at all. is there anything i can do about it?

(i have a 3 year warranty and just got this a week ago brand new from ibm. i will call them tomorrow to ask about it, but im suddenly very not happy)

edit: ok now im confused, as i posted this and minimized the window, i noticed the dead/stuck pixel is gone now. i know it wasnt a spec of dust. do pixels unstick themselves like that?

edit2: .....wtf....now the dead/stuck white pixel is somewhere else. why does this keep happening?

edit3: heh ok yea, i keep finding stuck white pixels, then they go away after i make the entire screen white (open up a blank text document) or something that forces the entire screen to change FROM white to something. why do i keep finding stuck pixels?

Constant stuck then unstuck pixels might be a reason to contact IBM. I think the official dead pixel policy is 8 dead/stuck for a new screen... I guess you could argue that means 8 stuck pixels over time rather than 8 all at once. Heh heh.

I have no dead/stuck pixels on my T40 but I very occasionally get a stuck pixel on my external monitor. Goes away like yours.

Try gently massaging the screen next time you notice one. That often works with stuck pixels.

thank you nonny. i will call a lenovo rep tomorrow. even though these pixels have not been permenantly stuck, are these grounds to have it replaced?

edit: hmmm, according to that link i guess its not grounds to replace it. i will still ask though.
