My T23 beeps three times

#1 Post by dorronto » Tue Aug 09, 2005 8:05 am

I just received a used T23 off Ebay and after I install some PC133 ram, it just beeps, once-three-once-three again and nothing happens. Can't even boot into bios! The hard drive and dvd drive are installed. I'm familiar with IBM laptops and I'm hoping it's not the motherboard. I bought it knowing it was untested, but it was a good price. Sometimes you have to gamble. Anyway, any suggestions as to what to do? My next step is to slowly take it apart and look for anything obvious.
I appreciate any suggestions anyone might have. I really don't want to sell this as dead (T23,P3-1000). Thanks. Ron :(

My first guess is that the motherboard might be toast - but check out:

1 Long, 3 Short Beeps? You've probably just added memory to the motherboard since this is a conventional or extended memory failure. Generally this is caused by a memory chip that is not seated properly. Reseat the memory chips.

while 1-3-1 - you'll need a new motherbaord.

good luck.
