New IBM Video driver

#1 Post by akhavan » Thu Aug 11, 2005 3:00 pm

Hi,

There is a new IBM Video driver 8.133.2-050525a-024243C on the
Downloads and drivers site.

http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... MIGR-41918

Does anybody know if it works with External DVI display?

My existing Video driver 8.102.1-050224m-021425C works fine with my external display via DVI so I'm wondering if its safe to upgrade or not.

Thanks

Sepehr

OK update

I just upgraded to IBM Video driver 8.133.2-050525a-024243C and the external display DVI works fine. But can't see any difference with old driver.

Thanks in advance for all answers/pointing to the thread regarding this topic.

I would REALLY REALLY like a new IBM certified driver for my T43p, the old feb one is the most stable with a bevy of games, but it isn't exactly as fast as the newer drivers.
X31, T43p (on sale soon I think :( ), T400

I also own a T43p, do the driver from ATI work?

Is there a difference between the Mobile and non mobile driver Version of FireGL V3200?

What are the moddef cat 5.6 drivers?

Maybe someone can sum up the current driver situation for the T43p series.

Thnx.

Ciao,
Wiesl

You can install the Catalyst drivers (non-mobile) and get a bit of performance boost, by using patje's mobility modding tool: http://www.driverheaven.net/patje/ however I recommend using Catalyst 5.6 drivers for the time being as I had performance problems with with the 5.7's that a avilable now. I also recommend not using the Catalyst control center (CCC) version but instead using the smaller package that includes the older ATI control center. When I installed CCC I had problems with the cpu throttling up to 100% use every few seconds and it was killing my battery life.

ATI Catalyst 5.7 video drivers and CPU throttling

#11 Post by gerdh » Mon Aug 15, 2005 5:36 am

I can not confirm your findings, Kaplanfx.

Running Catalyst 5.7 without CCC on my T40 on battery and AC power with no negative effect on throttling at all. I use ThrottleWatch from Panopsys to monitor the CPU.

There are 2 independent issues here. The throttling was due to using CCC, which you say you are not using and therefore would not have the issue. The 5.7 drivers for me were fine in 2D but were causing stuttering in my 3d performance.

Hi Sepher,

Are you saying the new drivers still work OK on external DVI at a resolution > 1280x1024 ?

Cheers,
Christian

As I type this, I'm using the new driver on the external DVI at 1920x1200.
Apathy is on the rise, but nobody seems to care.
