T43 Screen Resolution/Display Problem, HELP!!

#1 Post by fjearr » Fri Aug 12, 2005 4:05 am

Hi All.

I recently purchased a T43 26684DM notebook (1.86ghz, 1gbram, ATI x300 w/64mb) and noticed that when I first booted up my T43 the screen resolution was set at 1280/1024 and at 16 bit quality. I noticed that the Icons were blurry and then looked at the screen and noticed that in fact the whole screen was rather blurry.

I thought perhaps if I changed it to 32 bit it would fix the problem so I did this and still it didnt help. The only way I can get it to a normal / non blurry state is to change the resolution to the maximum 1400 x 1050. Only then are the icons and lettering CRISP and normal.

When its set at 1280/1024 the screen is blurry, does anyone else notice this? can you guys set your resolution to 1280/1024 and look at the icons or display properties lettering and then back to 1400 and tell me if you see it too?

Or can someone elighten me to a way to fix this? am I overlooking sometihg that I need to set in the options somewhere?

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers

1400 X 1050 is the native resolution for a SGXA+ display. As such, that is the only resolution that will look clear on your ThinkPad, which has a SGXA+ display. An XGA display has a native resolution of 1024 X 768, and that is the only resolution it will look clear at. This is perfectly normal and is a trait of LCD's. As a result there is nothing anyone can do about it. CRT picture tube displays do not have a native resolution, and will look good at any setting.

EDIT: Here is a link that explains this somewhat. Native Resolution

ahh..

thanks for the explanation definately does clear everything up. and here I thought I had a problem with my screen =) silly me.

so then is there much difference between SXGA and XGA? I mean is it worth paying the extra hundred or odd so dollars to get SXGA?

is the difference actually noticeable? or is there a specific function or something that SXGA can run? or do better then normal XGA?

cheers

The fuzzyness was due to you have the laptop set to the wrong resolution. LCD screen do poorly if not set to their "native" resolution.

Or you could just turn of stretching the display under Advanced Display Settings - Displays - LCD and preserve the native pixel use and just settle with a smaller image if you need smaller resolutions.
