T23 DVD player

#1 Post by MichaelT » Fri Aug 12, 2005 10:59 am

I have a T23 with the Matshita DVD-ROM drive. This is a new machine for me and I've installed the drivers that are available from the Lenovo web site. One item that appears to be missing is the DVD decoder. Where do I get that? When I searched for one it looks like there is none from IBM and that I need to buy one. Is that the case? If so, which one is recommended?

Thanks,

MJT

I'm assuming you are talking about playing commercial Hollywood DVD's. If you have Windows XP, I understand the Windows Media Player 10 will play DVD's. I don't think you can get Media Player 10 on any previous versions of Windows.

The DVD player that may have come with your T23 is commercial software, not available for free download. If you buy DVD player software, my recommendation is CyberLink PowerDVD. That's what I use, and I like all it's features.

I'm running Win2K SP4 so it looks like I'll need a commercial program. I'll try PowerDVD. I've seen good things about it elsewhere as well.

Thanks,

Do you have the default IBM factory load? If so, the IBM DVD player install program will be on your hard drive in the IBM folder (whatever it's called). Or if you have recovery disks, I'd expect it to be on there.

If you do buy PowerDVD (which I use and like very much on my T22) look for an older copy (version 4?) which will run leaner and therefore improve playback performance for you compared to the newer versions which can result in stuttering or jumpiness on older systems because of their increased drain on system resources.
