New wireless problem with T43

#1 Post by roanoke » Fri Aug 12, 2005 12:54 pm

Just got my new T43266276U, which uses the IBM wireless A/B/G. It has very good range, I can connect to my network just fine, but it only says it's going at 1 mbps. The windows utility says it is 11 mbps, but for some reason IBM access connections says it is going at 1 mbps. Any help on this matter would be greatly appreciated.

Also, i'm using a linksys BEFW11S4 router, and I upgraded the firmware. Still slow.

Ok, I would also like to add that when I run a bandwidth test on it, it is still very fast, and in IBM Access Connections while running the speed test, it shoots back up to 11mbps. So i'm wondering, does the IBM Wireless have some sort of power saving enabled where when i'm not transfering a lot, it slows down a bit? Also, how do I turn off window's wireless monitoring application?

Are you sure it said 1 MPS and not 1 GPS ; I think I saw something like that with my wireless connection -- not sure exactly where it came up -- and I thought it sounded very slow, but I think it may be in a different unit of measurement, and actually is very fast ?

I just got my new T43 and discovered the same thing, but I think it's the real-time transmit rate you're seeing.

Leave the Wireless Connection Status window open while you open a website with a browser and you'll see the transmit rate fluctuate up and down as the page loads. So I guess 1Mbps is effectively the "resting" rate of the card.

As for turning off window's wireless monitoring application, go to Network Connections, select the wireless connection and click on the Change Settings link in the menu on the left. Under the Wireless Networks tab, make sure the "Use Windows..." check box is unchecked, then under the General tab, uncheck both checkboxes and that will remove all the annoying taskbar icons and warnings.
