Depends on your power manager settings.
Are you on battery or AC? Do you have it set for adaptive or max performance?

If battery and adaptive or low, the CPU temperature should be around 42-46C. If AC and max performance, then it can be 60C.

It depends.

Your room temperature & how long you've kept it on also matter

My t43 is about 52C at idle and more than 90C after 15minutes 100% loading . The room tempertature is about 76F.

That's awfully high, make sure your fan is running faster when at 100%.

53C is still too hot.

Hi, emorphien,

How to adjust the fan speed? I notice that the fan speed seems not change when the CPU temperatue is increasing. And the air blowed by fan seems not very hot even the CPU temperature is about 92C. I have a Dell Latitude D400, whose CPU temperature is about 35C at idle and 65C at 100% loading. However, the air blowed by D400 is pretty hot.

In fact, I already sent my t43 back to IBM for repair. They said they could not reproduce the CPU temperature and could not fix it. I don't know why they can't reproduce the high CPU temperature because it is quit simple. Just run any program to keep CPU at highest frequency for 20 minutes, the CPU temperature will rise to more than 90C. Next time when I send my t43 back to IBM, I will measure the accurate room temperature and write down every procedures about how to reproduce 90C CPU temperature.

By the way, I am in Wyoming. The highest temperature in summer afternoon is about 80Fs. In the evening the temperature will drop to 50F to 60F.

my cpu temperature varies a lot, depending on the room temperature. In my room, which is like 90+ F during the day because I have no a/c, it runs in the mid 50's, up to ~65C at full load. I am not too happy about that, since I thought it would run cooler.

However, I took it to school and in the a/c, it stayed around 40-45C, which I think is much more acceptable.

I have been surprised how influenced it is by ambient temperature - I don't remember my dell 5150 being that way, though I suppose it could have been.
