New HDD with T42

#1 Post by stevepre2005 » Wed Aug 17, 2005 8:43 pm

People are talking about some large HD (like 100G seagate) with T43 and got 2010 error message.

I was wondering if 100G seagate or any other new HD works with T42?

Thanks

I was also wondering the same about the T41. I will soon be buying a 5K100 100G for mine....

From what I gathered it seems a T43-related problem because of its HDD controller that uses some kind of PATA-SATA pass-through...

Some people report only seeing the message but others have also problems w/ the HDD being unable to work stable.

Maybe T41-42 are not affected, or just the message is displayed w/o any problem w/ the hardware.

Anybody out there with a latest-BIOS T41-42 and a "non-supported" :P HDD???

I have a T41p with Seagate Momentus 100gb drive and no problems or warning messages.

As per others' postings on this forum:

Only T43/T43p have this non-firmware harddrive upgrade problem, due to its badly designed SATA-PATA converter (ie: T43/p motherboard actually designed for SATA HDD's but added a traditional Parallel-ATA adapter to it to use the same old hard drives.
Think this problem is so far unique only for T43/T43p.

ie: all T42/T42p & T41/T41p should have no problems changing to another hard drive.

I myself have changed my T42 to a Hitachi Travelstar 7K60.

(I'll wait for the Seagate 7K160 to come out hopefully on time next summer before upgrading any further. Big changes are on the horizon).
