So the T42 is fantastic....truely an awesome computer...i like it quite a bit.
The only "concern" is that after being on for a few hours and performing a windows update, norton anti-virus scan, and installing things liek centrino hardware control the area to the left of the scroll pad....in between the scroll pad and the fingerprint reader is warm. Now its not really hot...to my fingers touch its slight warmner...but the side of my palm (like everyone's im assuming) is more sensitive to heat and so it feels warm..almost to discomfort levels. Anyone else experience this?
Besides that little thing, this computer rocks!!!
T42 new review....hot spot !

Do you mean the right side of the scroll pad? I thought the fingerprint readers were on the right and this is where your hard drive is. The left only has the slot for the pcmcia card and the expresscard. You will notice heat from the hard drive after continual use if you lack RAM or if you are just doing hard drive intensive tools such as scanning for viruses or copying large amounts of files. You'll notice it even more if you have the 7200 drive. Once you start doing everyday tasks that are more CPU intensive and have a proper amount of RAM (so that virtual memory is not used), the laptop runs very cool.
Hope that helps.

Completely sorry, I meant to say the Right side. Actually it subsided and became cooler after a while.
So in the end...its a great comp, really liking. Who would dare say IBM laptops dont look good!
gcchatel- I think you nailed it...i was running a virus scan and I only have 512 mb ram in there (my 1 gb chip i opted to wait to install...probably today actually!). Also I have the 7200rpm hard drive...so I think you're right. Thanks for the response.
Everythings looking good so far!! Thanks!
