Hydravision vs Presentation Dir. on T4x

#1 Post by pipspeak » Thu Aug 18, 2005 3:47 pm

Can anyone tell me the pros and cons of ATI's Hydravision (with an X300 card) and IBM's Presentation Director for simple docked/undocked monitor switching? I can't seem to find any detailed information about Hydravision's capabilities.

I have T4x and use the Port Replicator II to run either an external SXGA monitor when docked or the laptop monitor (XGA on a T40 or SXGA+ on a T43) when not. Presentation Director will enable me to switch between the two but not automatically. When I take the computer on the road I have to manually select the monitor setting (via Fn+F7) because it does not recognise it's undocked (it recognises when it's docked, however). Not a great problem, since it takes all of three seconds, but it would stll be nice to not have to worry. The IBM software is also flakey when it comes to changing desktop backgrounds etc. for each scheme.

My question is whether Hydravision any better than the IBM software at switching between monitor settings automatically or not? I uninstalled it but might reintall if it's worth it.
