activesync not detecting irda port

when i run activesnyc 3.8's get connected wizard it fails and lists the infrared port as not installed. it is turned on in the bios and it shows up in the device manager under Infrared devices as IBM ThinkPad Fast Infrared Port. how can i get activesync to use it?

Do you have it enabled in the Configuration Utility?

yes, it is enabled in the thinkpad configuration utility.

i got it! i found some suggestions on deja to turn off the serial port to get the irda to go. I did this (and also disabled the modem for good measure) and now it works.
