No Battery
I have searched this forum and IBM and my thinkpad manuals, maybe I just missed something, but, does anyone here run their laptop with the battery out of the machine, just using AC power adapter? It seems like I read something somewhere that this is not good but can't find it. I'm asking in this forum because I have the Li-Ion battery in the T42 and many other thinkpads have different chemical compunds that may have different properties.

I use mine plugged in without a battery. Always. Of course I have several UPS's around the house and I'm always plugged in to one of them. I live in an area where there's lightning several times a day on most days, and quality power is difficult to provide because of this. Even with a wide voltage range set on my UPS's they are clicking and beeping many times a day. I don't know if this is the "right" way to use a laptop at home (or even if there IS a right way), but I've found it best for me. My laptops last practically forever and with my practice of fully draining and recharging my batteries they seem to last too. There has been much discussion on what's best for batteries too. I can only go by my experience as for what works for me... but I buy far fewer bateries than my friends who use them as an UPS and put hundreds of very short-cycle uses on them.

It is best to keep the battery in the laptop for multiple reasons...Kyocera wrote:I have searched this forum and IBM and my thinkpad manuals, maybe I just missed something, but, does anyone here run their laptop with the battery out of the machine, just using AC power adapter?
