How to roll back Bios/EC and SP2?

#1 Post by astros55 » Mon Aug 22, 2005 12:54 am

I've been having problems with my T42 freezing up after updating it from BIOS 3.06f to 3.16, EC 3.02 to 3.04, and to SP2, as described here: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=14527.
Now in addition to the freezeups, whenever I shut down, I hear (but don't see) an error beep. It shuts down fine, but I keep losing my QuickLaunch toolbar on startup.

I want to try rolling back to the original BIOS (3.06f) and EC (3.02), but I don't know how. Can someone please describe the process to me? This page (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/875350) shows how to uninstall SP2, but I'd appreciate any other tips someone might have.

Finally, I did these upgrades about a month ago. Will the amount of time that has passed have any adverse effects on/after a roll-back?

Thanks.

there is a new version of the bios version 3.17, have you tried that yet? better to go foward than backward if possible.

Yeah, I saw that but the list of fixes don't seem to apply to my problems (as far as I can tell):

# (New) Enhancement of the security function on power-on: When the hard disk password is set, regardless of other passwords settings, Wake On Lan from power off state does not work.
# (Fix) Changed the Finger Senser default timeout value from 13 seconds to 40 seconds.
# (Fix) Fix the re-enumeration started after restart from low battery suspend in the BIOS setup.

Do you still think it would be worthwhile to upgrade to 3.17 anyway?
