T23 memory questions

#1 Post by kidpaprika » Mon Aug 22, 2005 12:37 pm

OK,

First of all I'd like to apologise for what I know are going to come across as very basic, novice questions. But that's what I am - a novice.

I've recently installed a system monitor on my computer and noticed that the CPU is rarely stretched, barely ever even reaching half way. The disk also seems hold out well (I recently replaced it with a 5400RPM, which seems much quieter and faster).

However, my MEMORY is almost always at least half way, and is often above 90% (which seems to be when my system starts to slow down). I have 256mb.

So, I have two questions:

1. If I buy some more memory, will my computer run faster? i.e. fewer hangs and slow-downs.
2. What kind of memory do I need to buy? Please be very specific here, as I really haven't got a clue what I need.

Thanks. Fantastic forum, by the way. I've received a LOT of help on these pages.

:D

First off, which Operating system are you using?

If it is a Windows 2000/ XP setup, although it is designed to work with a minimum of 128mb, 512mb is the minimum I feel for smooth operation.
Like with any memory increase, don't expect whole heaps of performance gain, but it will be noticeable.

From what I remember your T23 uses PC-133 SDRAM (144 pin SO-DIMM), and from what I hear your T23 unlike most other Thinkpads will take almost any brand.
