Just enable the service associated with the 9.0.1.31 driver, as per my post above.

Are you saying that this service is new with the 1.31 driver? Becuase prior to installing that driver, I had no problems, also with the 1.25 driver I am running now, the service is not started and yet the driver is working fine.

I've experienced nothing but stability on my thinkpad with the latest drivers. I think the computer heard me when I told it I would replace the 2915abg with an atherosII card if I had ANY issues.

I didn't know about the earlier drivers; I can only tell you that Intel driver 9.0.0.31 has this service. I became aware of this driver when I installed the "Software Installer".

It would make sense that if this service is present in the earlier versions, you would want to enable it. The service is associated with a driver. Windows instantiates every driver into memory at bootup. Therefore, you would want this service automatically started, and available at every bootup. It will increase system stability, and will increase system performance. Try it out!

I rolled back to driver 9.0.1.21. I still show this service in Services. I have not done anything with this service, but I see that it is set to Manual, and not started. I am not using my ethernet adapter except in very rare instances. I wonder if this service is not for the ethernet wired connection only. I would expect it to be started while I am using my wireless connection if it was needed.

Since AFAIK all ThinkPads that have the Intel Wireless 2200 or 2915 adapters also have the Intel ethernet wired adapter, having that service set to automatic may reduce boot time because it is checking the state of the ethernet adapter. It is not necessarily checking the state of the wireless adapter. - Not that I know, just speculating.

Hi, I have currently no chance to get my T43p to connect to my WLAN with IBM Access Connections 3.71 and Intel Pro Wireless 2200BG driver 9.0.2.31. Access Connections reports the Adapter to be switched off, cannot switch it on while Fn+F5 does no longer work on WLAN either...
I have the Atheros IBM 801.11 a/b/g card (it was an upgrade I installed in my former T42p), while the T43p (2669-H2G) refuses to accept the card (error 1802).
Unfortunately the no1802.com seems no longer to work on the T43p (at least on mine). Thus I think I'm stuck with the Intel card, but this card causes a lot of trouble...

Hi,
I had problems too with the Fn+F5 after the driver upgrade. I tried to uninstal it, in several ways ... meaning ibm's installer isn't that good. Anyway eventually I have downloaded the driver upgrade from the web site and installed it manually. I think it didn't work well on the first boot... but now it is OK though I didn't touch (change) it again.

well, guess what: My rather intense installation and uninstallation cycling to get the 2.31 drivers working with AC 3.71 led to a rather sad state of extreme slow bootup and login process for the T42. It went so bad that I decided to re-install the OS and application partition from scratch. Yeah, the experience wasn't pretty but at least now I have a system which is responsive and loaded with latest drivers... and who knew: now the 2.31 and AC 3.71 work flawlessly together: go figure!

I wish IBM gave us their own operating system with their rather massive driver/sw array

I am about ready to rip the 2200BG out of my T40 and throw it into the nearest river

I had the older driver (8.1.0.28 ) working with a few glitches and decided to upgrade to the latest driver posted on IBM's website to try and resolve those glitches.

Now, my 2200BG will not work reliably for more than a half an hour. And not only will it not connect after coming out of standby/hibernate, my wired connection refuses to work either until I reboot! Does anyone have any insight into this? I am calling IBM support and going to see if they can either resolve this or have them ship out the IBM Atheros card instead.

Happy if your Thinkpad would accept another card. My T43p seems to limit me to the Intel Cards (forcing me to deal with loss of wireless functions)...

Hey guys, I just bought a a new T43 and these forums have been really helpful.

I'd thought I'd try to share my experience with the Intel 3.1 driver.

I used ThinkVantage to update without even knowing that the 3.1 had given some of you problems. Afterward I noticed I could no longer use Fn+F5 to turn wireless on/off. Although I haven't yet used wireless so I can't attest to speed or stability, using Fn+F5 to turn wireless on/off is important. I decided to use the Control Panel/Add Remove Programs to "Repair" the driver (just double click the Intel PROSet/Wireless Software and "Repair" is an option. It did some stuff, restarted my computer, and now I can use Fn+F5 to turn the wireless card on/off again.

Hope this helps anybody!

Quick followup, I took the Thinkpad to a public hotspot and it seemed to be working stably. So I went out and got a Linksys WRT54GC compact router in place of the DI-624 and so far everything is working smoothly, including WPA.

This is the 3rd router in 4 years that I've had to buy, the first two basically had the wireless component break down. Anyone else experience this at all?
