Is there a way to monitor the fan speed for thinkpads ?

#1 Post by nrj45 » Tue Aug 23, 2005 4:12 pm

This could be a good base to compare fan noise perhaps... I searched but didn't find any software that was able to show the fan rpm. I tried speedfan, motherboard monitor.

Do anybody have any idea ?

Thanks

I haven't found any either, but agree this would be a great way to measure relative noise levels.

If MBM doesn't support it, then the outlook isn't good.

I think a dB meter is best for this.
Current Laptop:
T43p 2.26 GHz - 2668Q2U
2GB - 100GB 7200 RPM
15" UXGA FireGL V3200

Returned Laptop:
T43p 2.13 GHz - 2668H3U
1.5GB - 60GB 7200 RPM
15" UXGA FireGL V3200

My Backup Laptop:
T30 2 GHz - 2366XBX
Heat Prob - Dead RAM Slot

You'd have to specify the weighting, angle, distance, surface, environment, and meter to have anything comparable at all.

I'd settle for fan speed since the sound-making parts are all more or less the same for a given notebook size and model.

has anyone figured out if Lenovo is using different fans on the August 2005 T43 models? My 2686M7U (15") is quiet and I should be receiving a 2686M5U (14.1") next week so I'll post my results.

somehow, Lenovo managed to get rid of the annoying pitch of the first two T43's I tried, which makes me think they're using a fan with a different pitch at a slower rpm, or something along those lines.
