Hi,
except it's a T43, which in fact works on the 120GB drives (I have a TOSHIBA installed) but complains every start-up by 2010-error (firmware stuff).
Well, there are threads covering this...

there is actually a new laptop harddrive coming out 160gb. I'll look for where I found it...and I think it only has a 4200ms seek. I'm pretty sure it'd slow you down a bit unless you were using it as a USB drive or something...unless you really need the space.

Hi,
think I found the 160GB as I was searching for the max. capacity available in 2.5" for my upgrade. IIRC the 160GB is an ACER replacement drive with SATA interface, which doesn't fit in most Notebooks using PATA interface.
(And for the T43p having the Sonoma chipset with Serial-ATA it doesn't fit either as IBM decided to use a SATA to PATA bridge instead of (more expensive) SATA drives. So max. capacity seems to be 120GB for Thinkpads currently.

It would be great if the bridge was removable or could be bypassed, allowing true SATA drives to be used (without warning).

How integrated is the bridge?

Hi, just found the Fujitsu MHV2160BT to be a 160Gb drive (SATA).

Regarding the SATA <=> PATA bridge: Don't know whether the mechanical interface of PATA and SATA drives are similar (thus allowing to install SATA drives at all), but I would spend the extra money for SATA drive if the T43 design would accomodate user selection of HDD interface for either SATA (direct connection to Sonoma chipset) or PATA via bridge.
But I think there is no chance to get rid of the bridge...

Could you please advise where you got these 120-160 gb laptop hard drives. I would want to get one as a secondary drive for my thinkpad.

Hi,
first you cannot buy the 160GB SATA drive (of course you can buy it, but you can't use it in the Thinkpad). Thus you're limited to the 120GB drive. There are also 120GB drives availlable by Seagate, Toshiba and I thinkt Fujitsu.
I got mine from "Mix-Computer" in Germany, but I think searching with google for either 120GB and 2.5" or the Toshiba P/N should do the job.

Sincerely, Carlhermann

160GB hard drive has not came out yet. Seagate is the first company that announced that it will come out with 160GB for now 120GB is the largest hard drive that you can get for notebook.

Thats interesting. The SATA drives that I have seen are LESS espensive than their PATA counterparts:
