well have you ever got your motherbpard replaced.... ???

if yes then you will know ... where it comes from ...... it's not guranteed that they will put a brand new motherboard ... it can be new or can be a working used one ... then out from 30 day returns or other a services motherboard.

..... looks like you got your answer.

I sure don't get all the fan noise folderol. Mine is great!

Probably so few in inventory because so few get returned. It is a great and very reliable machine. To think that a company is committing wholesale fraud by selling used machines as new is the height of paranoia. The motherboard scavenging is equally far fetched too. I guess the thought is that a number equal to the number being returned also need motherboard replacements. Sheesh! Where does this kind of conspiracy thinking come from? Where do the aliens from Roswell fit into the story?

This is my first ThinkPad. In the past, I've had Dell, Toshiba, & Sony, and the ThinkPad is the best of them all by far. I doubt that there are hundreds of folk rushing to return their ThinkPad because the fan turns on from time to time.

Remember that the few registered here is not even the tip of the iceberg in ThinkPad sales. Usually most folk come to forums like this to ask questions or to solve problems. You rarely hear from all the ones who don't have the problem or the questions.

Ideapad purch Oct 2013. Cannot recommend.
T410S Purch July 2010

Good post Anthony. I have opened or witnessed opened hundreds of IBM boxes over the years. I have purchased returned machines at a discount from IBM at their warehouse in Toronto. I have purchased used machines from IBM. Never a hint of any fraud by IBM and such is as I expect.

"Used" motherboards, so far as I know, come from refurbished, tested repair returns. I can imagine (a very small number) motherboards being scavanged from physically broken machines and re-used for warranty repair. Why not?

Lenovo is not about to sell used as new.
It would never happen.
That is the biggest no-no in manufacturing.
Far too risky.
