ACCESS IBM
ACCESS IBM
We have two new 2379 DYU. Fast great machines. Issue is when we try to "access IBM" to check updates it (they) won't connect. Tried it on both T-1 LAN at office and cable modem at home same result. Also tried with CNN minimized to insure that we had an active internet connection. Otherwise big improvbemt over the T22 and T30's They will be replacing

The Access IBM Update Connector is notoriously unreliable. It's far easier to go to the driver matrix and download updates manually:
http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site. ... PAD-MATRIX
Download the packages - they are self decompressing files and will decompress in c:\ibmtools or c:\drivers. Then use the "ThinkPad Software Installer" to update to the current version (the Software Installer will detect new packages that have been decompressed to the ibmtools and drivers folder, and allows you to choose what version of the driver or tool you want to use).

You don't have to check each version. You can download the autodecompress packages and execute them to decompress them to c:\drivers & c:\ibmtools
When you run the software installer, it will automatically parse through c:\drivers and c:\ibmtools and look for decompressed packages. It will also check your system to see what the current package version is for each driver or tool.
Each driver or tool listed in the software installer will have a set of radio buttons listing the packages that are available. You can then choose what version you want.

Don't send your machine in if the problem is not in hardware. IBM should be able to replicate the unreliablility of the Access IBM Update Connector (or at least its unbearable slowness).

Does anybody experience application failure of Access Connections on startup (with the Microsoft send error report message appearing) from time to time? Not that I need it or find it particularly useful, but I just wished it didn't do this. It seems no system changes could have caused this as it is a new T42. I'm just trying to determine if this is a mildly unstable app by design? That wouldn't be right for IBM
