this looks like the ibm abg type I card....

No it won't work, there are bios check that only allows it to work T40/G/R50 and later machines

I order the type II last week and it said so on the front page of the manual...

I'm sure it won't work on type II....the confirmed wireless that will work on t2x is intel 2100 b, intel 2915. Maybe intel 2200

The T21 and T23 do not do the bios check.

The Intel 2915 abg pci works flawlessly in my T23:

As trade-off for the WPA and abg features, you would lose the dial-up modem feature as the 2915 does not have this combo.
