Screensaver makes computer hot.
Screensaver makes computer hot.
Hey all...I have a question. I downloaded a screensave (from space.com in particular). Now whenever the screen saver has been running, the temperature of my T42 spikes to 68 C. I dont know why this happens. Once the screensaver is off, it goes back down to around 38 C.
Anyone have this occur. I'm not saying its a problem but I'm wondering why its heating up the computer.

screensavers are a waste of energy and processing power. It used to be that screensavers were necessary for the mono CRTs because their screens were easily burned in if there was a stationary image on it too long. Now though LCDs and modern CRTs don't have this problem so screensavers are pretty useless. They just make ur computer draw images and such and so of course heats up the comp. I'd say just close the lid and not bother running a screensaver.

It heats up the computer because of CPU and GPU usage.STS06 wrote:Hey all...I have a question. I downloaded a screensave (from space.com in particular). noooo. What you SHOULD do i what every security expert recommends. And then what the Department of Energy recommends. First use whatever OS's locking mechanisms. For Windows its winkey+l and for linux there are a host of options. And then whatever you do to shut off the screen.
Personally I run linux and have Control+L setup to both lock the screen and use the acpid daemon to shut off the lcd screen.
I must say though, cracking a [wordinalllowercase+couple of numbers] type passwords is easy to crack in windows, so that locking might not help. Use linux, breathe freely, breathe regulary, knowing your system is minutely more secure

Yeah..the fingerprint option (from what I've discovered...still in the process of setting it up), doesn't shield your password or anything so its not really that much more security. But I like it b/c is convenient and just a swipe of the finger.
