Just curious what the max CPU swap for a T22 is...???...Can anyone give me a hint for what I am looking for...????

Also, are any of the newer T series video cards swappable with the puny 8MB card presently in the T22..???

Thanks Guys.....and Girls....

What CPU does your T22 have?

The Pentium III M 1000MHz is the fastest CPU that will work in a T22 AFAIK. The T22s with a PIII 900 have the latest mainboards. PIII M 900-950-1000MHz run at 1.7/1.35V. The earlier CPUs are 1.6/1.35V.

If you have a CPU lower than 900MHz, you will need to get a later model fan.

There are no video cards in these TPs. The video chips are part of the mainboards.

It has a 900Mhz in it now....I don't know if a 100Mhz jump is worth tearing the machine down though...

Thanks for the reply..!!!

It's pretty simple, 2 screws hold the keyboard in place, 4 screws hold the fan and then remove the CPU from the special ZIF socket by turning the locking screw.

Clean the thermal compound of of the underside of the fan/heatsink and apply a premium grade compound such as Arctic Silver. Use an anti-static wrist band and premium quality #0 and #1 Phillips head screw drivers.

DL the IBM Hardware Maintenance Manual for T20-T21-T22 TPs.

A 100MHz jump from 900 to 1000 is only about a 10% increase and wont be that noticeable.

How much memory do you have? What OS? Going from 128MB to 256MB will give you more bang for the buck, especially with Win2k or XP; 512MBs is even better with those OS.

Sounds easy enough..alot easier than the 770 series...and i've had system boards out of 770 series numerous times...I don't even need to look at the manual for that series anymore when taking them apart,so i'm not worried about taking it apart.....

I build quite a few desktops for people,so i've got lots of AS5 layin around....it may be worth it,just to get the junk thermal compound off to apply some AS5...!!

The T22 has 512MB in it right now with XP....but I would like another 512MB...!!!...

I keep reading conflicting stories from the net on what FSB this T22 is.....some say PC100 RAM...while others say PC133 RAM....which is it...???

And what T series did they start using DDR RAM...???

Thanks for the reply's..!!!

T22 has a max capacity of 512MB and uses PC100. The T23 uses PC133 RAM and has a max capacity of 1GB. T30 started using DDR RAM (PC2100).

What kind of your HDD is?The old 20G?Find a new 5400RPM HDD for your T22.There will be some very noticeable advance performace you will see.I meant that a new high speed HDD is very important.
The max CPU for T22 is 1000MHZ.Intel S-Spec of 1Ghz CPU for T22 are SL53s,SL53TB and SL53TF.Though swap for 1G cpu,you don't have to change for a bigger fan.The original fan is OK.My T20,I have swapped for 1G CPU and T22 fan.Almost a year,my t20 works good!

A 5400 or 7200 RPM HDD with at least an 8MB cache will provide a substantial performance boost over a drive with 512k to 2MB cache.
