T43P 2668-Q2U PHOTOS OF COOLING FANS AS REQUESTED

#1 Post by redskin » Mon Aug 29, 2005 4:19 pm

Ok gentlemen here are the photos of the fan unit for the T43P with model 2668-Q2U 15" LCD Notebook that many of you requested.

As I said before this model is a lot more quiet than my previous T43p model. The ambient temperature inside is 80 F inside and I was surfing the web for 5 hours and hardly I hear the fan comes on. The fan does come on every now and then it stops, as comparing to the other T43p model that I had, the fan came on constantly, and when it came on it stays idled with a humming low noise background. I never had problem with fan noise in T43 notebooks. But comparing to this model that I have, what I can conclude is that this model is a lot quieter than my previous T43p model. As far as fan noise when boot up or when cpu intensive appication is use, this model and the previous model that I had both sound equally loud, which I expected. But that is normal for all T models I think.

So to cap it all off the only difference between this model and my previous model is that most of the time the fan stays off as compare to the other one the fan constantly comes on, and when the fan runs in the background it's a lot quieter than my previous model, and that is the only difference between the 2 models. I hope this helps

Not to sound, well bitter or not to ignore everyone elses problem but I hope, for my sake, that they dont fix the problem or else I would have gone for the T43 instead/!!!!!!! :x

Kidding, its better that they fix it than not...at least for the rest of you! :evil:

Did you find any differences in the hardware or maybe the software between these 2 notebooks?

I don't really understand how all this cooling stuff works, but is the problem (in general) that the fan is too far away from the processor?

If so, could it be beneficial to make a tube that goes from the processor directly into the fan?

Thanks redskin!

Mine is on its way. I hope it is quieter than the last T43p.

BTW, they charged me like $385(!!!) for the additional 1GB. More than they quoted on the phone :?

Rhino,

IBM ripped you off big time. as far as this laptop goes it is really a fantastic laptop. but since i already have a good desktop, and laptop for me is important in portability and note taking. so i ended buying x41 tablet. i can't wait to try it out. since i only play games on my desktop and use laptop for travel, word processing, note taking, and photoshop. i thought x41 tablet would suit me. when it comes to the word laptop, i think that's what it is for , it's for portability and battery life those are the 2 elements on the top of my list . and x41 tablet with 8 cell and extended battery last me 8.5 hours . i do miss of not having an optical drive for the x41 tablet, but since i only use laptop for work strickly so optical drive is not that big of a deal of not to have.

Well I hope you'll get yours and you tell me what you think of the 2668-Q2U. If I didn't have a desktop already, i probably would keep this laptop as a desktop replacement. So I'm giving away this laptop to my brother. And he better show me some appreciation, because this laptop costs me a fortune to buy, hehehehe.

Is this model quiet ? Because chipsets are not included in the cooling system and on my t43p it's them that are alway trigging the fan. (I tried fanning them with another fan and the thinkpad fan stopped).

Thanks -- it looks very much the same as the noisy one except for the part numbers (now 26R9066 and 26R9074) and serial number (now at S050715CN). The sticker color changed from purple to yellow, and the overall hue somewhat shifted from brass to copper (might be camera/light).

Anyone knows if the FRU 26R9066 (Fan Long M24) is compatible with a T42p 14.1". I wonder if a specific FRU should be required in specific T4x machines?

I have the 26R9066 installed on my T42p, but yesterday I check out a T42 and it blew hot air (more hot than my T42p heatsink does), so I was wondering this
Current

Past: T420 HD+, X61s XGA, T61 14" SXGA+, T42p 14.1 SXGA+, T30, A22e

I found it:
IBM 26R9074 ThinkPad T43, T43p Laptop Fan

Can't find it on Lenovo sitem but on that page it says:

Code: Select all

 Compatible with the following models with the Intel Pentium M 760processors,(1.6GHz to 2.26GHz):

    * 2668
    * 2669
    * 2686
    * 2687
Is then don't recommended to use it on Dothan processors, maybe a heat design or something?
