T40P - Upgrade Options

#1 Post by grapesmc » Wed Aug 31, 2005 7:03 pm

I searched a bit, but was hoping someone could give me a quick answer, given the amount of traffic on the forum.

I have a T40P, 2373-G5U, and am wondering the following:

1) Can I upgrade the Internal Wifi from 802.11b to 802.11g
2) Can I add an internal Bluetooth module. I have the bluetooth screen (LED) so I assume I have the antenna in my LCD.

Thanks!

Rob

I don't know the answer to your question regarding blue tooth. But I have upgraded my mini PCI wireless card from IBM 802.11a/b to IBM 802.11a/b/g II without a problem. No new driver required.

I just want to confirm that you replaced the Intel Pro/Wireless LAN 2100 3B Mini PCI Adapter with which model? Does that make sense? Thanks so much for the info.

No. I had the dual-band IBM wireless (802.11a/b). I replaced it with the IBM a/b/g II, which uses the same driver. If you want to replace an Intel card for the IBM card, I'm very positive that it would work but you will need to install a new driver.

This is the card that I got. This card was on sale for $45 about a month ago. Now the price has gone back to $65. Not sure if this has anything to do with gas prices or not.
-T42p 2374-D03 with Pentium M 765 2.1GHz, 1.5GB RAM, 7k60 HDD, IBM 802.11 a/b/g II wireless, 6-cell battery, and no touchpad
-X61 Tablet 7764-CTO with 3GB RAM and 7k200 HDD
-W500 4061-CTO all stock

I'm going to give it a shot and see if it works. If not I can always send it back. Funny, I looked on e-bay and the price was higher than the IBM site (no private parties were selling - it was all "e-bay stores"). thanks for the info, I'll let you know how it works out.

If anyone cares... The card worked perfectly. Great performance.
