#1 Post by risolutore » Tue Jun 29, 2004 4:49 am

Inform me when you get more % off and a super special 2373-CWU or equivalent 2379-DXU with these specs:
2373-CWU Pentium M 745 1.8 512MB 15.0¨ SXGA+ 9600 80HS Combo 11a/b/g Wi-Fi32 Mod/Blue Yes XP Pro May 2004

1) How can I get installed the proper Italian keyboard?, (probably they come from factory with US keyb and OS) didn’t it? I would like to swith to my native language..
2) I don’t need the OS since I legit own a desktop license and I would know if I could succeed into getting totally working installing XPSP1 from scratch.
3) could I have and buy from Bill a Italian Keyboard and localized Ita recovery cds

So the keyb is a customer replaceble unit CRU :-)
BUT the OS from Bill is US? is it? and for turning it into a regular european model? I don't believe I must spend 1000€ for only a localized product!!

"I don't believe I must spend 1000€ for only a localized product!!"

What do you mean??? WinXP Pro in Italian shouldn´t cost more than 120 Euro. The IBM specific programs and drivers you can download at www.tpdrivers.com.

In any case, it is worth calling IBM in Italy for the recovery CDs in Italian, may be you are lucky.

Well - to be fair, 1/2 of that is Italian VAT tax - right?

It strikes me that you've got to choose - I live in France, I speak, read write French and therefore I'd prefer a French setup. As it's my hard earned cash that bought this beauty, I don't plan on spending too much - so I must make a choice. A partly French, partly English Thinkpad for 2000 Euros or an all singing dancing French version for 4000 Euros.

My French keyboard arrives tomorrow morning - I paid 41 Euros incl delivery. Pretty much all of the software I currently use will run independent of the language chosen for the O/S (English) so I'll load them in French - that way the keyboard will correspond with the language I use the most.(and perhaps I'll stop using 'q' when I mean 'a' !!)

By the way, this CWU is 'fantastico'...

So Can I choose localized windows preinstall? I don't think this couls be a gret problem, or work for ibm, since they probably have the imageultra image of various OS..

If you buy a Thinkpad from Bill it will be pre-configured to use an English (albeit US) O/S. If you want an Italian version, as I've tried to explain, you must either buy in Italy, or load your own version of the O/S onto a machine bought elsewhere. In most cases, the majority of modern programmes will work independent of the language chosen for the O/S - but this IS NOT the case for all...

The 'disadvantage' of a cheaper machine is the fact that you cannot have everything exactly the way you want it...shame isn't it. This said, I prefer to save 50% of the purchase price to re-invest in other things, than worry too much about the language - being bi-lingual helps in this matter (my Serbo-Croat is really coming on fine...)

You can buy it from your local IBM Maintenance unit.

You can definitely install your own Italian XP. However, be sure to download IBM italian drivers first.

It will more difficult to Bill than to you. I strongly advise when you get your machine to get in contact with IBM and get those two by yourself.

If your friend has an italian T41, than he/she should call IBM for the (italian) recovery CDs. This would be the easiest way.

KBD change is a very easy task

#13 Post by Guest » Thu Jul 01, 2004 2:39 am

Ciao Resolutore
Call IBM Italia and order your system specific keyboard and do replace it
accoprdingly to its instruction. The instruction comes with the KBD and
and is done in less than 5 minutes with a small screwdriver ;-)

I have done so with my US 2366-JBU Thinkpad T30.

Regarding the KBD customizing from US to Italian:
Go to Settings / KBD and add your Italian and set it default and reboot !!

VA BENE ;-)
