How exacly are you 'using' the CD/DVD? If watching some .avi's from there (video), have you closed the program?
If copying some files, then closed all open Windows Explorer windows, and if you stil can't, download Process Explorer from www.sysinternals.com, and search (ctrl-f) for the file name, it'll display which program has an open handle on the file(s), you can then just check which program won't let go of the files, you can try closing the handles yourself.

I also remember some people having this problem also, and according to my memory the answer was in some hardware replacing, although it seems to be mostly a software prob.

Go to Add/Remove programs and uninstall DLA (Drive Letter Access).

Your problems will go away.

I have the same problem!
Is it good to remove DLA?

You can always reinstall it, I don't even remember what specific task did it do, perhaps some CD-writing, but Nero or some equivalent will probably do it better anyways.

I had the same problem when I first received my T42 new. After I installed all the latest IBM/Lenovo and Microsoft program and driver updates, the problem has gone away. I can't say which update fixed it, but I do remember one of the updates being for DLA (drive letter access). I still have DLA installed, but I haven't been using it.

EDIT: FYI, DLA is for using a CD/RW disk like a floppy disk or hard disk. You can copy or transfer individual files, or multiple files and folders using drag and drop, cut and paste, etc. You need DLA or or another compatible UDF file format reader to read the disk in another computer.

DLA let you se a DVD has a hard drive. You can still burn DVD's and CD's just fine without it.
