I have this weird "problem".
I have a scheme set up in the IBM Power Manager. When I go off AC, I get a beep, screen brightness drops slightly (not as low as the scheme setting), and a battery icon appears in the task bar.
When AC power is restored, I get another beep, and the battery icon in the task bar changes to an AC plug. The screen does not get any brighter.
And here the clincher - after a few minutes, the tp goes into standby - as if it is still on battery power! Even scarier, it will NOT come out of standby. The only solution is a force shutdown with the power key.
My workaround: everytime the power source changes (without a hibernation in between the change), I open up Power Manager, and Edit my scheme. As soon as I hit Finish, the scheme becomes activated properly. Eg the screen brightness goes fully up or really low as per my scheme settiings.
Is there a conflict between the IBM Power Manager and the Windows Power options control panel? I have removed Battery Maximiser.
I am on a new T43 26684DM.
Power Manager not switching schemes automatically
That is weird, especially on a new machine. If it is very new, it is wrong behaviour and could be returned to IBM as defective. There is no harm in uninstalling Battery Maximizer that I know of. There is a relatively new power manager available. You might try downloading that and upgrading (if yours is older) or reinstalling (if yours is the same version) to see if that helps. You might also check services to see that the IBM PM service is running. Also, you might check all the settings in Power Management in Control Panel to ensure that your power scheme is set properly. Finally, since you uninstalled Battery Maximizer, you should check that you are using a valid Power scheme. ... JD Hurst
