Swapping wireles cards ?

#1 Post by gg3761 » Mon Sep 05, 2005 12:49 pm

What would be involved if i wanted to swap my Intel 2200 card for an IBM a/b/g card? Is it worth the swap?

you have to remove, keyboard, and then palm rest ..

if you have A rounter then yes .... else .... it's just personal choice.

I swapped the Intel 2100 for the IBM a/b/g. The IBM software first uninstalled all the Intel drivers and software and then installed itself. All went smooth

Wow. That sounds easy. Why did you change? Notice a difference? I bought the card off of a reseller on ebay. Do i find the drivers on the IBM site or will IBM's Software Installer program find the correct drivers?
Thanks for the info so far!

I swapped the WiFi cards because I found the performance of the 2100 really bad; it kept dropping connections (I then had no Internet access at home for several months and had to heavily use various hotspots). Every ten minutes or so it would drop the network and had to search for available networks again, then reconnect, this really drove me mad...and the signal strength was always medium or low, it just probably lacked sensitivity because the IBM a/b/g now says "excellent" in same locations... i.e. it was a good thing to do. Another thing is, the IBM card is not only B but G (I do not know any A networks in my area though), so it is faster for copying large files at home (I share broadband with several people)
I got that card from Amazon.co.uk, it came new, boxed and with drivers on a CD.
I would probably try to find and download the drivers from IBM site first, then install the card. Where are you located? If you want, I can make and send you a copy of the CD I've got.

I found them on the IBM site. Thanks for the CD offer but i'm on the west coast of the USA. I should get the card in a few weeks. I'll repost after the install and update everyone.

Thanks
