Hibernate - Insufficient Resources for the Windows API
Hibernate - Insufficient Resources for the Windows API
I'm not sure if this is the exact msg, but I get this when I'm trying to hibernate my laptop.
I have a T42 with 1.5 GB Memory (Model 2687-DDU).
This only "seems" to happen when I have Eclipse running.
Any ideas?

There's a new kbase article describing a hotfix for this problem: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=909095
I spent about an hour on the phone with Microsoft tonight trying to get the hotfix. After speaking with 3 groups, I was finally told I would get a phone call the next day from the "research" group and they'd assist me in the installation of the hotfix. I'll report back in a day or two with the results.
I sure wish there was simply a place to download the fix from.

i called them today and had the same result as kenr... passed around for an hour only to be told that that department couldn't provide me with this particular hotfix and an engineer would have to call me back within 24 hours to assist me. microsoft call me back..... when pigs fly.
i just don't understand these "call for hotfix" things.... do they think that we are illiterate or something. why not put the hotfix online and allow the user to read the article for him/herself and decide whether or not it applies to their situation. sheesh.

The situation typically occurs when you have had several programs running at some point... making it look like memory fragmentation is the root issue.
The reason why they make you call, is that the patch is "supported" because some big company complained about the issue, so they released a patch. They make you call, because the patch isn't as well tested as it should be (it even says it may get additional testing). Consider this "beta", for all intents and purposes.
I'm personally not to sure I'd want to install it. I have the same issue now that I'm at 1.5GB. My solution has been to restart in those cases.
IMHO I don't really want to screw up my OS for this.

I just got off the phone with Microsoft and the rep claims the hotfix that is out is meant for application on WinXP systems with SP1 only. He also claims the hotfix to apply to SP2 is not ready.
So my question is, for those that have applied the hotfix already, what version of XP were you using: SP1 or SP2?
